The Missionary work of Southminster supports our primary mission as a church, to make disciples for Jesus near and far. Our missionary work is both direct, "hands on," and financial.

In addition to the annual support to missions provided from the operating budget of the church, Session has designated one offering monthly (on the last Sunday of the month) to be taken during the regular Sunday worship service to support specific missions chosen for emphasis by our Missions Committee. See the Calendar (left sidebar) for the 2011 Special Missions Offerings.

We support God's Bounty Food Pantry with food collections, monetary gifts & hands on service. Southminster serves at God's Bounty Food Pantry on the 3rd & 5th (when applicable) Thursday of each month from 1 pm until 7 pm.

We also support 3 children through Kids Alive International in Papua, New Guinea and Lebanon.

Other Missions that we support include:
One Great Hour of Sharing, Pentecost Offering, Loving Hearts Learning Place, Congo Helping Hands, Olivet Foundation, Gideons, Wheeler Mission, Westminster Neighborhood Ministries, Area Youth Ministries, FastTrack of Franklin Township School Corporation, Shepherd Community Center (formerly Area Youth Ministries), Kelleys with Campus Crusade, Outreach Foundation.

New missions for 2011:
God's Bounty Food Pantry, Pentecost Offering, Peacemaking Offering, Christmas Joy Offering, support for Chris Coons with Campus Outreach.

Learn about and Pray for Missions

Two weeks ago we began our weekly evangelistic meeting, which is called Prime Time. Our first meeting we invited everyone we could and raffled off two $250 gifts to the people that came. We were overwhelmed by the fact that around 340 people came to this first meeting and were able to hear the Gospel from our Campus Director, Matt Cazee. To give you a frame of reference, the most people that have ever come to a Prime Time in previous years was 280 people.

After an incredible week like that, the next week we held our Athlete's Night where we made a special invitation to all the athletic teams on our campus and raffled away anoth $500 gift to one team. Again, we saw God move in an incredible way as about 100 athletes attended and approximately 400 people overall. The picture above shows a little bit of what it was like that evening. Thank you for your faithful prayers and support for me and what God is doing here at USI!

With much love,

Chris Coons

Faithful Team,

For those of you who have not yet heard I will be working at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville for this upcoming school year. I moved down here about one week ago and I am currently living with the Campus Director and his wife until my apartment opens up. I really enjoy the rest of the staff team that I am working with and I have learned a lot from them over the past week.

A bulk of our ministry this first semester is centered around a 5 on 5 basketball league that is run by Campus Outreach called Rim Rocker. This is a great way to build relationships with hundreds of guys with whom we hope to share the Gospel. This week our goal has been to meet as many freshman guys as possible and invite them to play in our league. As of right now, we have 200 guys signed up to play in our league! The response has been incredible and I am very excited to see how God uses this over the next few months. Please be praying for our league and that God would make Himself known through this.

With you in the Harvest,

Christopher Coons
