Southminster's annual Ash Wednesday service will begin at 7:00 pm this Wednesday, February 17. Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, a time of preparation for the coming celebration Easter. The focus of our Ash Wednesday service of worship is peace and reconciliation, healing and wholeness. The service will include the imposition of ashes in the sign of the cross on the forehead. Those who come forward will receive this reminder of our mortality ("dust to dust, ashes to ashes"; "remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return") as we begin the journey of Lent and dedicate ourselves afresh to the Lenten disciplines of penitence, prayer, and Bible study.
