What the Serpent Slayers High School Sunday School Class has to say about Psalm 42

Hello! Recently our class discussed Psalm 42:1-8. Part of our lesson was to think about the passage and what it might sound like if it were written today. I thought they had some awesome responses and they gave me permission to share them with you! Praise God for giving our class the clarity to understand His word!

Here is the passage from the New Living Translation Psalm 42:1-8
1 As the deer longs for streams of water,
so I long for you, O God.
2 I thirst for God, the living God.
When can I go and stand before him?
3 Day and night I have only tears for food,
while my enemies continually taunt me, saying,
“Where is this God of yours?”

4 My heart is breaking
as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers,
leading a great procession to the house of God,
singing for joy and giving thanks
amid the sound of a great celebration!

5 Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
I will praise him again—
my Savior and 6 my God!

Now I am deeply discouraged,
but I will remember you—
even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan,
from the land of Mount Mizar.
7 I hear the tumult of the raging seas
as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.
8 But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.

Casey Coons writes:
I long to see a sign from you Lord. Something to let me know you're there. When will our brothers and sisters be home from war? When will the world trust in you again? I know you have a plan, but my heart is still sorrowful. I look forward to the day when you come to set things straight, so I will persevere. Though I struggle, I know you will save me so I will sing your praises forever.

Chad Coons writes:
Like ants being tortured by a little boy, We fell like the devil is upon us. The struggles we face to survive make it difficult to love our neighbors. In our troubled times we turn towards you to save us from the world's turmoils. As we wait in the darkness of hardships, we know the dawn of your world is only as far away as the sun's arisal.

Harry Reeder writes:
As time passes by, I long for you God. I need you Mighty God, when will you take me from this earth? Everyday I'm staving, bullies make fun of me saying "where is this so called God of yours?" I'm falling apart, as I remember: I was able to walk without being terrified and able to come to church and sing and pray, it was good. Why am I sad, why am I so mad? You have my word, I will always believe in you God, Right now I'm crumby but I will remember your bread.

Garrick Straber decribed the passage in a drawing of a deer thirsting with a puddle of water nearby. My desciption doesn't do the drawing justice!

Animals long for their daily drink, my soul longs for you, Father. My soul needs God. When will I see God? I cry all day, my friends "where is your God?" This I remember as I give my soul away. I used to go to church with friends being an active follower of God. Why is my soul so empty: I remember you God from the deserts of Egypt through the big city of Rome. People scream, a the extreme power of your tsunami's but I've endured it. At day the Lord gives me his love He protects me at night. This is my prayer.

Thank you guys for allowing me to share! You are awesome!
