CE Meeting minutes 1/18/10

Christian Education Committee Meeting
Monday, January 18, 2010 6:30pm
Present: C. Coons, J. Coons, S. Davis, J. Ingle, K. Rockey, K. Walter
Not Present: R. Gill
Meeting was opened in prayer by J. Ingle.
I. Parents’ Night Out
A. Saturday, February 13, 2010, 5pm to 10pm.
B. We need volunteers! J. Ingle will announce during church.
C. K. Rockey will be in charge of crafts, and will ask D. Reeder for assistance.
D. A simple meal will be provided; volunteers who don’t want to assist with child care
will be asked to help with the meal.
E. Opinions will be solicited about what movie to show.
II. Youth Group
A. Sean Kelley is and IU student, graduating in May, who is interested in the position.
B. Sean is teaching a lesson on January 31, 2010.
C. If he is not hired, we will need 4 parent volunteers to rotate through youth group. Suggestions will be made through email.
III. Easter Egg Hunt
A. Scheduled for April 3, 2010, which is the second week of Spring Break. (Easter is April 4, 2010)
B. We will plan to have it, but expect a low turnout due to Spring Break.
C. We will ask Pastor Glover his opinion.
IV. Rummage Sale
A. Scheduled for April 16, 17, 2010.
B. Will be run by LHLP.
C. Youth can sell concessions.
D. LHLP would like donations and help.
E. J. Ingle will submit information to be shown on the screen before church.
V. VBS
A. Date must be coordinated with LHLP.
B. J. Ingle and K. Rockey will look at material February 6, 2010.
C. June 6 through June 11, 2010 will be considered for VBS date.
D. K. Rockey will do crafts with D. Reeder.
VI. Sunday School
A. We would like to move the adult class to the 2 year old room.
B. We also will move the 3-5 grade class to the choir room.
C. The middle school class will move to the portable.
1. The heat needs to be turned on in the portable on Saturday.
2. Will ask the custodians to do this on Saturday.
D. The young adult class can then move to the middle school room.
VII. Hospitality Table
A. Hospitality committee would like to have a “Kid’s Corner” during fellowship.
B. This would involve a short table at which young children can eat, play, color, etc. while staying in the presence of their parents during fellowship.

VIII. Child Protective Policy
A. We need to consider amending it to include teenagers able to babysit.
B. We also need to consider scheduling 1 adult with 2 teenagers in the Preschool room during church service, since this room is crowded after the children’s story.
C. S. Davis will look into the Super Sitter class at St. Francis for teenagers.
