FAST TRACK 2010
Three years ago, Franklin Township School Corporation began a project entitled FAST TRACK. The purpose of FAST TRACK is to provide the school age children of the more than 2500 families in Franklin Township, who live at or below the poverty level, the REQUIRED items for the opening of school in the Fall. No. 2 Pencils, paper, markers, glue sticks, highlighters and backpacks, to name a few are not costly if taken individually but it is estimated that the average total cost of these items is in excess of $35.00. Add this to the cost of back to school physicals, vaccinations, haircuts and school clothes and the total cost becomes next to impossible for the children of the more than 2500 township families living at or below the poverty level. That is why, three years ago, Dr. James Snapp, Assistant Superintendent of the FTSC, took charge of the project and enlisted the help of community businesses and churches. Southminster is participating this year in three ways: 1. Vacation Bible School has selected Fast Track as its mission project.
2. Southminster members will have a month long opportunity to donate items or cash toward Fast Track, from June 20th through July 18th. A donation center will be set up for your donations.
3. Distribution Day, where the kids come to pick up their items, will be Saturday July 31st and Southminster has been asked to send a team of volunteers to work. This would be from 7:45 AM - 1:15 PM. A sign up sheet will be placed in the Gathering Place soon. On Sunday June 20th, Dr. James Snapp will visit with us at our morning worship and will give a brief presentation on Fast Track and the many ways in which families are served by the project. All donations are welcome by individuals, church committees or church groups.
